Conversations with Luke - Movie Edition

A few weeks ago we took the boys to see the new Planes:  Fire and Rescue movie.

There's a part in the movie where the female plane (voiced by Julie Bowen from Modern Family) tells Dusty Crophopper in kind of a creepy whisper, "I like watching you sleep." It's a very brief, but funny line in the movie. I would have thought it was funnier for the adults in the audience than the kids.

Luke cracked up.

After the movie I asked him what his favorite part was and he said, "the 'I like watching you sleep part.'" I'm like, great. Leave it to my kid to think the creepy whisper stalkery part is the funniest thing in the whole movie.

Fast forward to last night. Luke, Justin and I are sitting in the living room when Luke says, "I told Miss Trish, 'I like watching you sleep' like in Fire and Rescue."

Justin and I were like oh okay ha ha....wait....whaaaatttt????

We then tried to get Luke to explain the context of his comment to his teacher and exactly HOW he said it to her, but all we could get is that he told his teacher, "I like watching you sleep." He kept referring to the movie, but it wasn't clear that he told HER it was a line from a movie.

This concerns me on several levels 1) What could his teacher have possibly thought of this comment if there were no context clues? 2) Even if Luke told her it was from a movie, chances are she wouldn't understand WHICH movie and then she will wonder what movies we have allowed him to watch where someone says, "I like watching you sleep."

Add this to the "Embarrassing Things Kids Say" file.

Here's the trailer - the line in question is around 2:25 in the clip. (For the record - I thought it was a great movie!)

Mice War

2012 was the summer of the ants.

In 2013 we ponied up the cash for a pest control service and it was mostly quiet on the critter front.

In 2014 our cat died...and then the mice came.

We are now in an all-out mice war. In less than a month we have taken out at least 14 of them - all of them INSIDE the house. Most of them with traps. Two were DOA. One was caught by Justin's (mostly) bare hands. They are multiplying faster than we can kill them.

I wouldn't mind them so much if they stayed hidden. But noooo, I have watched them crawl out from under the washing machine, climb on the couch, run across the counter, and skitter across the floor. Thankfully only one at a time, but STILL, we're talking BOLD mice here.

I really hope we are nearing the end. Our new kittens have been "acclimating" in a guest bathroom for almost a week, so they may be ready to get on the job soon. I think yesterday was an impromptu training moment for them. Luke saw a mouse run under the bathroom door and a dead mouse was later found outside of said bathroom, so our kittens may be earning their keep.

I realize we live in the country, but good Lord, I cannot exist peacefully with them if they keep procreating and leaving their disease infested little footprints (among other things) all over my house. I would gladly leave them food and nesting materials outside somewhere if they would just GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!

So yeah, pray for me.

My Boyfriend

Yes, I really have so few stories about cool things that have happened to me that I have to bring this up again, but I just had to show you who showed up in my mailbox a couple of weeks ago...Chris Pratt...cover boy and blockbuster leading man.

You may remember my Chris Pratt story from a few weeks ago. We shared a moment once, but I was an "old married lady" at the time and it went no where.

No matter, Chris Pratt will henceforth be referred to as "my boyfriend."
